EU promotes economic prosperity in Africa

The European Union Delegation to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States have launched a programme to promote economic well-being and transformation of lives, and inspire hopes across the continent.

The EU also urged Nigerians to stay in their country and contribute to its development, adding that Nigeria is blessed with talented youngsters who can contribute to Nigeria’s economic prosperity.

The European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States, Ms Samuela Isopi, said this at a news conference to announce the launch of the campaign in Lagos.

She said, “The Africa-EU Campaign which was tagged ‘We See Africa’, runs simultaneously in Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

“We will work with national influencers to express our shared values and aspirations; showcase local success stories generated by our partnership; and connect with a new audience of young Africans, leveraging the pop culture”

She said the initiative was a big one undertaken by the EU outside its borders.

In company of enterprising Nigerian influencers such as the sensational music maestro, Teniola Akpata (Teni); iconic brand influencer, Eniola Adeoluwa (Eni); Ogola Kange (Smiley); tomato farmer and Frederick Dike, designer and shoe manufacturer were the faces of the campaign in Nigeria.

The ambassador disclosed said the EU partnered with the government to develop skills needed but added that young Nigerians must believe in themselves.

She said, “This is the message we have for Nigerians that there is hope in this country. And with the right environment, the right skills, you can make it. You don’t need to go to Europe or elsewhere to change your life or to change the life of your community. It is possible to do things in Nigeria; that’s the message. Young people in Nigeria have to believe in themselves, that is the first thing.”
